If so, you’re not alone. A magazine conducted a survey, (which you’ll read about below) and 60% of the participants credit ’self sabotage’ as their biggest challenge.

I guess the first question that comes to mind, is “Why would anyone want to keep themselves from success?”

Funny thing is, there a lot of reasons why people do it. Many reasons are based on some type of fear like: fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of change, or even fear of success. Yes, that’s really a fear.

I was listening to an interview the other day, and this topic came up. It was an interview with Dr. Wayne Dyer, who some folks call the “Father of Motivation.”

In a survey conducted by HealthyWealthynWise magazine, readers were asked, “What’s your biggest challenge?”

The results might surprise you. I know they caught my attention. 60% of the readers reported ‘holding themselves back,’ as their biggest challenge.

Wow, sixty-percent is pretty high, isn’t it? If you were asked that question, would your answer be the same?

Holding yourself back or self-sabotaging yourself, is based on beliefs and habits. A belief is a thought that you keep thinking, over and over again. A habit is a behavior that you keep doing repeatedly.

Here’s what Dr. Dyer says about self sabotage,

…you cannot find moving ahead and moving forward by hanging on to what you used to be. If there’s any advice that I could be giving you right now, it would be giving up your personal history.

Did you get that? What he’s saying is that so many of us never move forward because we hold on to the past. We spend so much time focusing on our past, that we let it run our lives.

It makes sense, if you think about it. If you keep living in the past, especially if you’re not happy about your past, guess what…you’ll keep getting the same results. Nothing will change.

The point is, if you feel like you could be sabotaging yourself, then step back and take a look at things from a different perspective. Whether you want a loving relationship, more money, better career, or just plain happiness – your success depends on making sure you’re not stuck in the belief that your past is the reason why your can’t move forward.

Shake things up. Do things differently. And don’t let your past define you. Instead, let go of that type of thinking, by focusing more on appreciating everything that you have – and can do – in the present moment. And deliberately look for things that make you happy.

Here’s an audio excerpt of the interview in the video below:

Do you start sweating at the very idea of delivering a speech? Many people suffer from some form of anxiety, including panic attacks, when asked to stand in front of even a few people.

Studies have shown that many of us are more afraid of public speaking than death!

Unfortunately, there are many occasions where we simply can’t avoid delivering a speech. Whether it’s a business presentation, community event, or just a family gathering, there will always be times when you have to stand up and speak, so you might as well sharpen your speaking skills!

Learning to speak in front of a group is very beneficial. Conquering that fear of public speaking could mean a raise at work, a more prominent role as a community leader, or more fulfilling relationships.

Here are the top five reasons why people fear public speaking:

Fear of failure

Self-doubt

Feeling vulnerable

Fear of judgment

Being unprepared

Conquering your fear of speaking in front of a large crowd will certainly take some time and practice, but it’s not impossible!

Follow these tips for becoming a confident public speaker:

1. Prepare yourself. Prepare a game plan for your presentation. Choose your desired outcome and visualize your successful speech.

2. Get familiar. Learn everything about the area where you’ll be delivering your presentation. Familiarize yourself with the stage, microphone, staff, the room’s features, seating layout, and more.

3. Release your nervousness. You should be energized and focused on your presentation when you enter the room – not on how nervous you are. Begin by taking a few deep breaths to rid yourself of your tension.

4. Get personal. Imagine having a conversation with just one person in your audience. This will allow your presentation to become more personal to your colleagues.

5. Make eye contact. Always make sure to look the audience in the eye so you can forge a stronger connection with them. Make eye contact with one person at a time – as if you’re speaking directly with them.

6. Keep moving. Avoid standing behind the podium while giving your presentation. This could lead to the feeling of being disconnected from your audience. Walk around the stage or stand beside the podium when presenting your speech.

7. Know your audience. Research your audience while preparing for your presentation. This way, you’ll know who’s going to attend so you can better prepare yourself.

8. Stay positive. Keep a positive attitude when asked questions. If you don’t know an answer to something, don’t try to fake your knowledge. Just say: “I don’t know,” offer to find the answer after the presentation, them move on.

9. Accept invitations. When you’re invited to speak at an event or meeting, always accept the offer no matter how nervous you feel. Remember: practice makes perfect!

10. Find a coach. Find a coach to help you strengthen your public speaking skills before the big day. This personal guidance will help you gain confidence and blast past your fears.

Becoming an effective public speaker doesn’t have to be stressful. Following these tips, and the advanced strategies in the special report below, will empower you to overcome your fear, while building strong personal skills that can unlock many new opportunities.

How to release stress anytime. If you’re looking for a way to do that, then you’re in luck. I’m going to tell you exactly how to do this. In the next minute, you’ll know how to relax anytime, anywhere, no matter what’s going on around you, using just one simple technique.

It’s funny how there are so many things to do to reduce stress floating around. It’s almost as stressful just trying to sort through all of the them.

As is the case with most subjects, the simplest things that we often overlook, turn out to be the most effective.

This technique is no different.

So, here’s the one simple stress reducing technique that you can use, right now. You don’t need any special tools to use it. No unique skills are required. Just the commitment to remember to do it consistently, whenever you’re feeling stressed.

Ok, are you ready? The one stress relieving technique that works practically every time is… breathing.

See, I told you it would be simple. Breathing is one of the simplest, and extremely effective, things you can do to release stress, almost instantly. Yet, no one uses it as often as they should.

I’m not talking about the breathing that you’re doing right now, as you’re reading this. I’m talking about consciously taking in deep breaths and consciously letting it out.

One reason why this is so effective is because it takes your mind off of the things that you were stressed out about. It helps you to focus on what is going on NOW. And now is where all of your power is. Now is where your control is.

There are a few variations you can use, but here’s a technique to start with. Do this whenever you’re stressed or overwhelmed.

Stand or sit up straight. Take in a deep breath, focusing on nothing but your breath. Feel the air flowing into your abdomen. Hold for count of 2. Then release the air slowly and completely. As you’re breathing out, imagine that your stresses are leaving your body with the air.

Repeat this process for at least 12 breathes, or more if you feel it necessary.

Here are 3 things to do to reduce stress, almost immediately. If that’s what you’re looking for, then keep reading. In this article, we’ll go over three simple strategies you can start applying to relieve stress.

Do them consistently, and you’ll have a better chance of feeling calmer and more refreshed.

The strategies I’m about to suggest are some of the most common and logical things you can do to relieve stress.

Of course, it should go without saying that if you feel you’re having severe reactions to stress, you should see a physician. With that said, let’s get into the strategies shall we…

Take Deep Breaths – one of the best ways to reduce stress is to breathe. It’s also something that you can do anytime, anywhere, no matter what’s going on around you.

Now, of course I’m not referring to the breathing that you’ve been doing all your life. I’m suggesting a breathing technique, here. Breathing calms you down and takes your mind off the things that stress you out.

See also: How to Reduce Stress In Minutes

There are different variations of breathing techniques, but here’s a simple one.

While sitting up straight, take in a slow deep breath. Hold for a count of 2. Then let the air out slowly and completely. Notice your breathing, and let all other thoughts float away as you exhale. Repeat 10-12 times, or more, if necessary.

Know your Triggers – Recognizing which things get under your skin, is an important step. Why? Because then you’re aware of it, and can do something about it, instead of unconsciously reacting the same way.

When you’re aware of what sets you off, you can then cut down or avoid exposure to those things if applicable.

Talk to Someone – Do you have a friend or family member that always makes you laugh, or feel good after you talk to them?

There’s almost always a person in everyone’s life that is either funny for no reason, or exudes good positive energy. That’s what you’re after.

So, when I suggest talking to someone, I don’t mean talk to them about what stresses you. That just keeps you focused on the stress.

Instead, talk to them about anything but that. Anything that makes you laugh and gets you in a positive frame of mind, produces good energy and allows you to be the real you. In time, the stress diminishes, and you feel better afterward.

Want to know how to demand respect? First ask yourself these questions: Do you ever get the feeling that your first name should be Doormat? Do you feel as if people take advantage of you on a daily basis? Are you allowing this to happen?

If you responded yes to one or all of these important questions, it’s obvious that you don’t have the respect of others, but that’s why you’re here to learn!

Respect is something you earn. However, no one deserves to be taken advantage of. Fortunately, it’s possible to change how others treat you!

Implement these simple tips and tricks and you’ll receive the respect you deserve in no time:

1. Put yourself first. An example of this would be telling your friend that you cannot babysit her 4-year old so she can get her nails done because you’re busy with your own personal appointments and schedule.

You have to make yourself a priority. If people see that you respect yourself, then you’ll ultimately be respected, too.

2. Use strong body language. When speaking face to face with others, portray the fact that you’re strong and important. Stand straight, look people in the eye, and speak forcefully but not overwhelmingly so.

If your body language shouts, “I am important and I respect myself,” you’ll surely gain the respect of others.

Those people who stare at the floor when speaking, avoid eye contact, and whisper their words are telling others that they don’t believe they deserve respect and attention. Always remember to stand tall and proud; you’re important and you deserve to be recognized!

3. Speak positively. In addition to having strong body language, the words you use to express yourself are also extremely important when trying to earn the respect of others. Learn to speak in positively and authoritatively. Don’t be boastful, but don’t demean or belittle yourself either.

Leave the impression that you’re intelligent, well spoken and confident. If you portray yourself in this manner others will treat you the same way.

4. Surround yourself with the right people. Let’s face it: there are people in this world who are disrespectful to everyone and everything. No matter what you do to command respect, nothing may work!

You may need to take some time and rethink those you’re spending time with. They may not be the kind of people who have your best interests at heart.

5. Stand up for yourself. If people are disrespectful to you, how do you respond? Do you say something to the offending person or do you just go on with life? People treat us in the way we allow ourselves to be treated.

If you confront the person and voice your opinion and unhappiness, chances are good that person won’t treat you that same way in the future. It’s not about being confrontational, but a simple “I don’t appreciate how you’re speaking to me” can go a long way.

We all have a desire and need to be respected. By making some small changes, you’ll be able to open yourself up to express respect, while knowing how to demand respect of others more naturally. Use these techniques in all interactions every day to gain the respect you deserve.

So, you’ve heard good things about this little thing called the law of attraction, and you want to know how you can use it to get what you want. The law of attraction is basically defined as: like attracts like. It’s at the heart of everything that we experience, whether we’re aware of it or not.

With that said, here are 3 effective ways to see results with the law of attraction. Keep in mind, that consistently combining these ideas can generate better results. At the very least, you’ll feel better about life, in general.

1. Be Thankful For What You Have

Keeping your attention on the things that make you feel good, activates the law of attraction to bring you more of those things. So take stock of all of the good things around you and that happen to you.

Giving thanks morning and night will not only help you to focus your daily efforts on what matters the most, it will also keep you humble and content.

2. Overrule Negativity

You know, you’re responsible for your own thoughts, right? Yes, negative things will happen to you from time to time, but you’re the one who chooses how to respond to them. You have the choice on whether to dwell on the bad things that happen to you, or embrace the good around you.

Something to remember is, what you continually give your attention to engages the law of attraction to bring you more of it.

3. Be Clear With Your Goals

If you want to use the law of attraction to reach your goals, it’s best to be clear about what it is you want. Being general isn’t as effective. Saying you want a lot of money, doesn’t have the same energy as saying you want $1,000.

So make a list of what you want to achieve in the next 2 weeks. Then the next 5 years. Think about it, be reasonable, and as specific as possible. Now read it all back to yourself, multiple times daily, and take action.

The Law of Attraction is a Powerful Tool

It’s clear that the law of attraction is a powerful force that can help bring improvement to all parts of your life. But just like any tool, it’s only as good as the person using it. Use it carelessly, and you won’t be happy with the results. Use it consciously and you’ll sculpt a masterpiece from the clay of your life.

Wow, you have to admit that was a good line… “sculpt a masterpiece from the clay of your life.”

If you’re looking to lead a happier life, believing in yourself is an absolute necessity. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect others to believe in you?

You may have gone through some rough times in your life making it difficult to be the happy person you want to be. Maybe you even suffer from a lack of self-confidence because of past conflicts and pains. No matter what you’ve been through, you can choose to overcome these obstacles.

It’s time to be your own Number 1 fan and there’s no better time to start than right now!

1. Gain more confidence in yourself by facing your fears.

Fear of failure may have caused you to ignore your dreams, desires or goals. Don’t let fear stop you from getting what you want and achieving your goals. If Thomas Edison had been afraid of failure, we wouldn’t have the luxury of indoor lighting today. He never gave up trying to find the right way to make a light bulb and he experienced over 10,000 ways of how not to make a light bulb. Just because you don’t reach your goals or dreams the first time, don’t give up. Keep trying until you succeed.

Fear of being alone may stop you from going away to school or moving to a new city where you can pursue your dreams. Realize that you will make new friends and that you’re current friends will always be there. Now with the Internet, staying in touch with your friends and family is easier and more convenient than ever.

Once you begin facing your fears, you’ll discover that what you feared may not be such a big deal after all. But, you’ll never know until you start.

2. Self-talk can also determine whether you believe in yourself or not.

Do you often say negative things like, “I’m an idiot,” or “That was a dumb thing to do,” or “I’m ugly?” How you perceive yourself comes out in what you say. However, what you say to yourself can also change how you see yourself.

Start speaking positively to yourself, about yourself. When you’re getting ready for the day, while looking in the mirror, point out positive characteristics about yourself and say them out loud. Phrases such as:

“I am an attractive person.”

“I am a good parent.”

“I am a hard worker.”

“I love myself.”

“I like how I look in these clothes.”

“I am brilliant.”

Even if you don’t believe it, say it! You’ll soon realize these things really are true. You can also post positive quotes or scriptures where you would see them several times a day to keep your spirits high.

3. Insecurity can be a source of disbelief.

Learning to be more secure in certain areas of your life will help you believe in yourself more, plus others will begin to believe in you as well.

4. There may be certain areas in your life that you feel you need to work on, so work on them!

Are you bad at financial management? Take a class to help you learn how to budget so you can be in control of your money, instead of your money controlling you.

Are you a slow reader? Take a speed-reading class or get a tutor to help you build speed.

Do you find it challenging to speak in public? Take a public speaking course or become an intern for an organization where you must speak in public.

Is your weight stopping you from believing yourself? First of all, remember that today’s society has a skewed view of beauty. Don’t allow the media to determine your worth! However, if your weight is at an unhealthy level, learn how to eat healthy and get regular exercise to take some weight off.

No matter what’s stopping you from believing in yourself, there’s a way to overcome it. You’ll first need to figure out what’s causing your self-doubt. Is it fear, insecurity, mental attitudes, or something else? Only then can you face the obstacle and overcome it.

It’s hard enough to increase your self esteem in regular times, but overcoming low self esteem in tough times is even more stressful.

Those of us who aren’t as confident as others tend to play the blame game with ourselves even more. So, what are some things you can do to not only make it through difficult times, but thrive with confidence afterward?

Here are a 3 things you can do to boost your self-esteem during tough times and beyond.

1. Look at the Good in Your Life

It doesn’t matter who you are, everyone goes through tough times at some point. The thing to keep in mind here is that dwelling on negative stuff doesn’t do you any good. If anything, it makes you feel worse, and lowers your self esteem.

Instead, look at the things that you appreciate and enjoy having in your life. Whether it’s an experience, a place, a person, or whatever. Focusing on the things you enjoy makes you feel better. And that’s the first step to getting through a tough time.

2. Relax

Sometimes, we can get so busy trying to make things happen, that we forget about taking time to relax, or de-stress. Probably the best time to just calm down and relax, is when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Go read a book, watch a movie, soak in the tub, take a walk in the park, or even spend time with close friends. Just take time to do something you enjoy doing on a consistent basis.

3. Believe Things Will Get Better

As I mentioned earlier, continuing to focus on the negative, when things are going bad doesn’t serve you. It makes you feel worse. On the other hand, when you know things will get better you’re more relaxed, and your outlook about things becomes more positive.

Hopefully, you’ve picked up the theme I’ve embedded in this article.

When you look at the good in your life, take time to relax, and believe things will get better, you feel better. You feel better not only about the situations around you, but you feel better about YOU. The better you feel, the easier overcoming low self-esteem in difficult times becomes.

Does exercise help your brain? Well, let’s put it like this… the less active your mind is, studies show the more your brain loses some functionality as you age, which leads to memory loss, brain fog, and even Alzheimer’s.

If that’s not enough to start giving your brain a mental workout, another benefit is a well-stimulated brain also helps you feel better by elevating your mood.

Here are 5 brain boosting activities you can do to keep your thinking sharp:

1. Play games that challenge and stimulate your mind. These include:

Picture Puzzles

Strategy Games

Crossword Puzzles

Card Games

Deduction Games (such as Clue)

Visualization Puzzles

Optical Illusions

2. Reading stimulates the brain as it activates your imagination. Reading also helps with memory retention and problem solving, especially if you’re reading a mystery. Also, self-help books stimulate your brain by helping you to think for yourself, as well as find solutions in your mind.

3. Exercising helps circulate blood that carries oxygen to your brain. Over the long-term, exercise is proven to increase brainpower and even create new neurons.

4. Stimulate your brain with meditation. Meditation has been shown to increase your IQ, relieve stress, and promote a higher level of brain functioning. Meditation also stimulates the prefrontal cortex of the brain, the area of the brain responsible for advanced thinking, ability and performance.

5. Deep breathing helps deliver oxygen to your brain. Oxygen helps you be more alert and awake. As little as 10 to 15 minutes of deep breathing daily can increase brain functionality.

So, does exercise help your brain? Yes, if you take it one step at a time. This is not a sprint. Just pick one or two of these activities, and do them daily. You’ll start feeling the difference in no time.

We’ve all heard it before, children are our future. And in essence, that’s true. If kids aren’t motivated now, early in life, just imagine how they’ll be when they grow up. Doesn’t look too good for us, does it? On the other hand, the more motivated they are as children, the more outgoing and fulfilling their lives will be as adults. So how can you use personal development for kids to motivate them?

Here are a couple of ways to motivate your kids so they grow up to successfully take care of you when you’re old… oops, I mean, so they grow up to be successful contributors to society.

1) Let Them Know How Proud You Are

Doesn’t it feel good when someone gives you a compliment, or gives you a thumbs up for a job well done? Kids are no different. Children love to get positive feedback, especially from their parents. It will help them to establish positive self-esteem, and motivate them to repeat what they did to get the praise in the first place. So, be sure to give little Johnny, or Susie, praise for picking up their toys. Or when they bring their plate to the sink, after eating.

2) Reward Them

On the same note as giving them praise, rewarding them is another way to motivate a child. Haven’t you seen how fast kids perk up when you tell them they’ll get “ice cream” if they clean their room, or take out the garbage? A reward gives them an incentive, or goal to work towards.

The key is offering something that interests them. As an added twist negotiate a reward with them. This way they get to use their own thinking skills in negotiating an incentive with you.

By far the best way to motivate, and instill good personal development for kids is to lead by example. Whether we realize it or not, kids pick up a lot of the things they do from the adults closest to them. That would be you, the parent.

What you do, and say has a large impact on the self development of your child. If you’re always complaining about problems or stressing out about bills, guess what you’re kid will grow up doing? On the other hand, if you’re positive and are always focused on solutions, rather than problems, your kid will do the same.

And that’s the best reward you can pass on to your kids.
