Do you feel like you’re stuck in a rut that’s inescapable? Life can seem boring after a few years of the same routine. It’s hard to be happy when you get stuck in a routine that you don’t enjoy.
The good news is, you don’t have to settle for less of a lifestyle than you desire. You just have to have the courage to go after what you want. You only have so much time to live your life. Something to be aware of is that, your comfort zone is your rut.
There a few simple things you can do to get out of a rut, and start living a fun and passionate life. To get you started on the right foot, here are a some steps you can take to keep from settling into a boring routine.
1. Set Your Goals.
There is no room for fear of change in the goal setting process. Remember that your comfort zone, the rut in which you presently find yourself, is the enemy to be feared.
So what is it that you really want? Start writing down those wants. Everything you want to accomplish or have should go on that list. It doesn’t matter how difficult the tasks are or how many goals you want to accomplish; simply write them all down.
2. Believe in Yourself.
If you allow self-doubt to take hold, you will settle for less than that of which you are capable. You only have two choices. Choose belief over your comfort zone. Keep asking yourself if you really want to stay where you are until death.
Belief is the only avenue toward change. You hear about people who have stepped out of their supposed lots in life and doing great things every day. You can do the same. What makes people do great things is the belief that they can do them. Without this belief, you will settle for less than your talents dictate.
3. Share Your Goals for Change with Others
There isn’t any room for shame in what you want to achieve. The temptation to hide your goals from others is the fear of failure trying to keep you in your comfort zone.
The reason we hide our goals is simply so that we can crawl back into our comfort zones without anyone noticing when reaching for our goals gets too difficult. The irony is that the most embarrassing thing in your life, is the actual rut you’re stuck in. So go out and tell your closest friends and family members what you intend to do.
Keep in mind, that those stuck in a rut of their own, may try to discourage you for selfish reasons, but those who believe in you will help you reach for your goals. This is what you need to keep you from settling for less than your abilities warrant.
4. Don’t Procrastinate
A lot of people complete the first three steps, but never get out of their rut. Why? They put it off until they can muster up enough courage to do something. Don’t wait around for courage. Start reaching for your goals today.
Do something every day that will take you in the direction of your goals and away from being in a rut. Keep your focus on the big picture at all times, but take small steps each day. You can only get from one place to the next, one step at a time, so start walking.
Procrastination and settling are the same thing. You will only find yourself out of your rut when you start moving in a different direction. Always keep in mind that your comfort zone is the enemy and your goals are the priority.
So go get what you want before you find yourself at the end of life wondering what might have been. Instead of settling, get out of your comfort zone.
